Mya Lesnar, a junior at Colorado State, made history by securing the first women's indoor national championship in Colorado State Track and Field history. She achieved this feat with a throw of 18.53 meters at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday afternoon.
Lesnar's winning throw came on her fourth attempt. Earlier in the competition, she recorded marks of 15.36 meters and 16.97 meters, earning her the seventh qualifying spot in the final round of throws. Lesnar then was able to show why she was the favorite coming in and on her 4th throw, ended up with a national title mark.
Her 18.53-meter mark also set a facilities record in the women's shot put at The Track at New Balance in Boston.

Lesnar becomes Colorado State's first indoor national champion since 2018 when Mostafa Hassan defended his 2017 national championship crown, also in the shot put. Lesnar also becomes just the second-ever women's national champion from Colorado State, joining Loree Smith who won the women's hammer throw at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor National Championship.
Lesnar is a former graduate of Alexandria High School, where she finished her career ranking 5th all-time in Minnesota for the shot put and 36th all-time in the discus. Lesnar finished her high school career in 2019 where she was the Class AA state champion in the shot put, also finishing runner-up in the discus.
